She works at the intersection of human experience, robotics, and artificial intelligence, designing systems that translate complex technology into intuitive, trustworthy, and humane experiences. With a BA in Design from UC Davis and an MFA in Interaction Design from the California College of the Arts, her practice spans product design, UX, interaction design, HCI research, and extended reality. Over the past four years, Shane has worked across digital and physical design disciplines, including robotics systems interfaces, AI-driven dashboards, smart infrastructure platforms, and immersive XR storytelling. Previously based in Tokyo at ICMG Digital, she designed autonomous robotics operations platforms, AI-powered building intelligence systems, and future-facing interfaces for global enterprise clients. Her work sits at the convergence of AI, robotic UX, data, and physical space — designing the operational layer between humans and intelligent machines. Shane’s research-driven background shapes her future-facing design approach. During graduate school, she explored cross-species interaction design between humans and animals, a perspective that continues to influence her work in social robotics and human-centered AI. She has also led speculative and immersive projects, including VR experiences envisioning the future of healthcare robotics in Japan and XR narratives focused on empathy and inclusion. With a foundation in fine arts spanning graphite sketching, oil painting, film, and photography, Shane brings a cinematic sensibility to systems design. As a China-born, queer designer working across cultures, she integrates empathy, cultural awareness, and social responsibility into her practice. As you gaze into their inscrutable eyes, you can't help but wonder: what goes on inside their enigmatic minds? While dogs wag their tails and wear their emotions on their sleeves, cats remain elusive and mysterious creatures, leaving you to ponder the secrets they keep hidden from the world. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- As a cat owner, it can be difficult to find the time and motivation to play and attend to your cat’s needs. The Catpanion system offers a fun and easy way for cat owners to connect with their pets through various interactive activities, while also providing helpful tips and insights into their cat's behavior and health That's where our cross-species interactive system comes in. By utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as machine learning, computer vision, and data analysis, we have developed a system that allows cat owners to better understand their feline companions and strengthen their bond. The Catpanion app offers a variety of interactive features, such as games and challenges, that promote playful interactions between cat owners and their pets. By providing an interactive system as a platform that encourages shared experiences, this project aims to improve the relationship between cats and their human companion. Through research and design iterations, the Catpanion system was developed to collect and analyze data from various sources, including solitary toys, interactive play, and daily activities tracking. The system generates personalized game content and health suggestions based on the collected data, while also providing an online community for cat owners to connect and share their experiences. Ultimately, the Catpanion system serves as a starting point for owners to establish healthier care patterns with their cats, with the option to continue using it for entertainment purposes. <img The liquid state data can be detected by a wearable receiver tool, allowing for a new way of visualizing data in the physical world. ConceptThe project aims to create a novelty in how we see and use data by making it more portable and accessible. Users can read data overlaying real-life environments within a display headset, blurring the line between the digital and physical realms. The project team has developed a transmitter tool that sprays a transparent ink only visible with UV lights. The medium that is capable of achieving liquid state data is called Vanadium dioxide. The team has also developed a wearable receiver tool that can detect data marks using a conductive data conductor. Users can touch the sprayed marks in physical locations to extract data. Imagine...As a cooking enthusiast, you've bookmarked countless recipe videos on your favorite short video app, ready to dive into the kitchen and bring your culinary creations to life. However, as you get your hands dirty with flour and oil, you hesitate to touch your mobile device and risk making a mess of your screen. But what if you could control the recipe video with just a wave of your hand? Imagine the convenience and cleanliness of being able to cook without ever having to touch your device. Goals and introduction The goals of this project are to make video recipe more acessible and intuitive to follow, while users are cooking in the kitchen. The personal goals I had for this project is to propse a solution for users like myself, who like to cook alongside recipes in the format of video. During the user tests, I noticed that most of the gestures were easy to recognize and execute. However, there were still some mismatches during this process, such as the "search" gesture and the "pinch" gesture. Adjustments were made to finalize the final decision on each gesture. By pushing pixels beyond the screen-based UI, I experiment with integrating various elements such as human gesture. Is our responsibility as designers to expand the potential and advance the user experience with the rapidly growing technologies. However, the gesture-based interface may not be applicable to all applications, and we have to be selective and innovative when designing better interaction for various scenarios. For this particular project, I achieved the most vital objective of the construction of a realistic demonstration of "smoke and mirrors". If I had more time to iterate on this project to its perfection, I would iterate on the design of the interface, and shooting from more angles to highlight the use of features. To make the scenario more realistic and can be understood better.
