The "Inverted" orientation is an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience designed to cultivate empathy among heterosexual individuals for members of the LGBTQ+ community, who constitute a marginalized group within contemporary society. The experience immerses users in a high school classroom setting, where they are surrounded by gossips and mockery regarding their sexuality, which is at odds with the societal norm. Moreover, the experience simulates familial and interpersonal pressures via negative messaging received on the user's smartphone. Through such immersive and interactive elements, the "Inverted" orientation seeks to provide users with a deeper understanding of the lived experiences of individuals who identify as LGBTQ+, thereby fostering empathy and promoting understanding.
